In April 2013, Peter Worthington sat down for what may have been one of his last interviews, to talk about Eritrea, the liberation movement and his recollections of the battle for Afabet. The 1988 battle was a turning point in the struggle to liberate Eritrea from the clutches of Ethiopian colonization. Peter Worthington, the legendary founding editor of the Toronto Sun, who died on 12 May 2013 at the age of 86, was in Eritrea during that battle and witnessed the carnage and destruction as well as the brilliant Eritrean strategy that destroyed the Soviet backed Ethiopian military. .
