://_THE_MANY_FACES_OF_DENN!S_HOPPERWEEN was inspired by the man himself, Dennis Hopper. The second Madsteez set foot in Hopper's recent exhibition at the Ace Gallery in Los Angeles, he knew something had to be done. "I've seen a lot of shows and this is the most inspirational body of work I have ever seen," says Deren. "I wanted to do a portrait of him the same way he did portraits of his friends and people he was inspired by like Warhol and Lichtenstein." Madsteez went on to meet with Hopper, have a photo shoot, and create his most intricate painting to date. "It took 6 months, but it was well worth it," says Deren. The 96" X 48" painting has yet to be seen by the public and will be on display at his Chelsea art show.
