At the first Americas Grasslands Conference (Sioux Falls, South Dakota, August 15-17, 2011), ranchers, scientists, government agents and nonprofit activists came together to affirm the value of our nations vanishing grasslands. Conference speakers shared the incredible benefits grasslands have for wildlife, soil quality, water quality and rural economies. Despite these benefits, the conference recognized that less than 5% of our native grasslands remain, and a policy summit that followed the conference focused on finding effective solutions for grassland preservation.
