What is Art in the Woods? A Easton Mountain GLBTQ Youth Program

"Arts in the Woods" is a week long program from August 25th to August 29th 2013, at Easton Mountain Retreat Center that gives young people a chance to express their unique queer selves through various arts, including music, dance, visual arts, and theater.
For the last seven years, Easton Mountain has brought together 40 to 60 young LGBTQ adults, many of whom are disenfranchised youths from NYC and the Boston region. In the past, these young adults have come together for a week of community building where they engage in creating their own workshops from leadership training and mentoring to gender identity, race, and homophobia. Arts in the Woods will approach those subjects and more, through art, music, dance and theater in a supportive and welcoming environment. The week will end with our third annual music festival Out in The Woods.
Arts in the Woods is designed to help young people unleash their artistic potentials. Through workshops lead by adult art professionals, and through skill sharing forums, campers develop their artistic crafts together and find new ways to express their unique, queer voices. Participants can choose to focus on visual arts, music, dance, and theatre, but are welcome to take classes in all three arts. The beautiful land at Easton Mountain offers artistic inspiration and a perfect backdrop for creativity.
