I filmed this video from my backyard. I had seen this bird the day before, and thought it was awesome. I love the nice blue and white color. And the sound it makes is just great!

So anyways, one day while I was feeding my finches, he came and landed on the fence outside and was watching what I was doing, and calling out. So I figured this might be a great chance to get some footage of the Western Scrub Jay. I grabbed my camera, and went outside. For a little bit, he was jumping around in my neighbors tree. I think he was just as curious of me as a was of him. I'm not sure exactly why, but he left a little bit later and went into a tree just past my backyard, and continued watching me. It took me a minute to locate him again, but he kept making his calling sound until I found him.

Over all, my impression of the Western Scrub Jay is that it's a very curious, yet cautious bird. Other birds around my area, like the California Towhee or the Hummingbirds seem to have no fear. They don't mind getting close to me or my dog to look for food, etc. But the scrub jay will usually just observe from afar, though he will usually call out when he is doing so. I'm not positive, but maybe he's trying to get my attention.

As a side note, I say "he" here referring to the Western Scrub Jay. But I don't actually know what gender it is. For more information on this awesome bird, check out:
