If you have been following the story thus far by watching our videos, you will know that we had given the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) until December 31st to contact us with a plan to address and resolve our issues concerning Kalaeloa Raceway Park.
As a result of this, we reached out to our Senators and requested an informational briefing on the actions of DHHL with the Hawaiian Affairs Committee, that was then held on Friday, January 17th at the State Capitol. We considered this the to be the next step in resolving our current situation.
The end result of this meeting was that the Hawaiian Affairs Committee recognized the problems derived from DHHL's actions, including a Personality Driven administration and the fact that DHHL has the right to exempt their properties from permitting requirements such as the letter originally allowing KRP to operate without them plus the other companies that are continuing to be exempted.
In addition, the Comittee identified that Kalaeloa Raceway Park detrimentally relied on the guidance provided initially by DHHL, and asked DHHL whether they could grandfather and work out our issues due to that detrimental reliance. It was also suggested that DHHL recognize our need and allow us to use the lower portion of our property as originally agreed to in our revocable permit.
We are very pleased that the Senate recognized our issues and look forward to sitting down with DHHL with a proposed solution.
