New Football Program for Westview Centennial school announced at a School Crime Stoppers / CFL Toronto Argonauts Argos Foundation Gun/Gang Awareness Lecture.

Argos Linebacker Chuck Winters spoke to the grade 9's at the school about making positive choices. See http://stoptheviolence.ca for more details on this grass roots intitiative to mentor the youth of our community.

Constable Scott Mills of the Toronto Crime Stoppers School Program spoke the kids about community building and the anonymous reporting of information to the community operated Crime Stoppers program, in partership with the police, and the media.

The focus was on preventing violent incidents, assisting the police to solve crime, and find missing persons and UNITY. Art work by graffiti artist 'BUBBLEZ', working with the Crime Stoppers program was displayed that stated "Community Building-United We Stand, Divided We Fall-PEACE to ALL"

31 Division Community Response Officers under the leadership of Sergeant Stephen HICKS attended the announcement, and will be a part of the football program at Westview, along with the coaches, admin team and students starting in the fall of 2008. "This is the whole deal..we're doing it up big..cheerleaders and all" ...

After this lecture, it was very enlightening to see 4 students who came up to Sergeant Hicks and talked to him as a friend.. because they had known 'Hicksy' from his 'For Kicks' soccer program that 31 Division Toronto Police Service officers have been operating for many years.

Photos from the day are posted on the Facebook profile of 'Constable Scott Mills' and on the Google Picasa album 'scotmills'.

Thank you Westview for your time, support and energy.. Looking forward to the football team ! Stay Safe out there..
