The Newark Museum's new interactive family experience—Generation Fit: Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle—explores issues of nutrition and exercise, and provides an interactive "tool kit" for disease prevention and healthy behavior. It supports First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" national initiative to raise a healthier generation of kids. The exhibit's interactive components—Calorie Crank, MyPlate, Sugar Detective, Healthy Portions, Fitness Challenge, Appetite Circuit, among others—will help visitors appreciate that small incremental changes in good nutrition and activity can lead to a healthier lifestyle. Childhood obesity is reaching epidemic proportions. More than one-third of all children living in the United States today are considered overweight or obese. The exhibit will encourage visitors to avoid engineered junk foods, high in fat, sugar, and salt and to consume a healthy diet of lean proteins, fruits and vegetables that help control weigh or B.M.I. (Body Mass Index).
