(Poss. Western) Timber Wolf in New Milford CT
Little late w/ camera - Same Timber Wolf encountered in yard approx. 11:30 am, warm, sunny day70-80 ft away. Both caught off guard - 'stare off'' (poss. territorial) a good 10+ min. Solid black WOLF (smooth wint. coat indic.of fml) EASILY 80-90lbs, height @ shoulder 30-32 in. Prev. Lupus' tracks identified = 4 1/4 - 4 1/2 in w/ nails (MUCH larger/ broad, distinct pad, vs. smaller/ narrow, distinct pad of Coyote/ Red Wolf Hybrids here). NOT SKITTISH (as Coyote/ Wolf Hybrids) When finally 'standing down', took its time walking back to deer path back toward woods/ brook/ den) w/ typical gait = confident, fluid & almost 'slinky' quality.
Audible confirm. Wolf PAIR = call (to gather) vocalizations w/ response - distinctive only of Canis Lupus. (Approx hour later, Coyote Hybrid pack heard calling several miles away from usual territory - now occupied by Wolves)
