Sukanya Pruksakasemsuk, the wife of lese-majeste convict Somyot Pruksakasemsuk, speaks her mind on the lese-majeste issue (article 112 of the Thai criminal code) in a panel at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand on January 31st, 2013. This is an edited excerpt of a 20 minutes long speech.

Somyot was sentenced to 10 years for having published two articles that were considered defamatory to the King of Thailand in his "Voice Of Taksin" magazine. He did not write the articles by himself, but the court considered him guilty anyway, ruling that the Printing Act, which absolves publishers from liability, does not apply in cases of lese-majeste.

The articles did not even name the King: they told the story of fictitious characters. But the court ruled that everyone would understand them as metaphorically talking about the king.
