Before hip hop got blinged out and Kimye got married in Tuscany, it was a genre with a bent toward social justice. Among the leaders of that movement in the early ‘90s were N.W.A. on the West Coast and an intellectually ferocious rap duo named Dead Prez on the East.
Dead Prez is made up of M-1 and stic.man. Their unique brand of rap is a blend of socialist lyrics, Pan-Africanism, and an unlikely emphasis on healthy living and even veganism.
