Bolts of lightning flashed across an ash column during the eruption of the Taal volcano in the Philippines on Sunday (Jan 12). Volcanic lightning can be caused by electrical discharge generated when a volcano erupts. The volcano blew ash and smoke, causing thousands of people to evacuate their homes and at least 200 flights cancelled from Manila's airport. (Video: APTN/Reuters)
