Max Vasquez at the tender age of 15 playing "Lullaby Of Birdland" (George Shearing/B. Y. Forster) with friend John Cuccia on guitar at the home studio of friend and home studio recording pioneer Mike Duran. At the time Max had only been playing trumpet for about 2 years! In 1978, Max rose from 5th trumpet, last chair at the beginning of Freshman year to first trumpet, 3rd chair by the end of that school year. At 16, Max had composed his first composition for Jazz Orchestra, which Doc Severinsen had given thumbs up. His words were, "This is too difficult for the Tonight Show Band to play, because it would take intense rehearsing - and we never rehearse!" Max continues to write and perform today. Thanks go to William Karnatz, Scott Lovelis, Raul Hernandez and the San Gabriel High School yearbook team for photos. Audio remastered and video edited at Maxx Vaxx Music studio
