TRAILER PLUG PROBLEMS.
In South Africa we have problems with vehicles electronic systems due to weak or damage trailer wiring.
The normal current draw of a trailer lightning system is between ½ amp and 3 ½ amps. Any abnormal current above 5 amps will course damage to the vehicle electronic components.
After a careful study the solution is to install a fuse box with 5 amp fuses on the vehicle trailer socket harness inside the boot area.
yellow wire, left indicator.
green wire, right indicator.
red wire, brake lights.
brown wire, Tail light right side.
black wire, Tail light left side
Do not cut the white wire. This wire is the common earth return for the trailer electrical system and do not need a fuse.
Any faults on the trailer wiring system will blow the fuse and isolate the trailer damage circuit from the vehicle electrical system.
You can also trace a circuit from the pin location of the trailer socket.
