This was the first race where they did not race to the yellow flag. It was also the first time the 'Lucky Dog' pass was given (named by Wally Dallenbach). Qualifying was washed out by Hurricane Isabel, so Matt Kenseth started on the pole. Ryan Newman won his 7th race of 2003 using pit strategy.

Included is the Discover Card Countdown to Green, where the new rules are explained and we are introduced to Brian France as the new CEO of NASCAR. I had a weird feeling about him during this appearance and after 10+ years, I now understand why.
