Temple University School of Medicine (TUSM) believes that technology will enable the alignment of education and medical care in the next twenty years to fully realize patient-centered care. Medicine will return to its origins while delivering efficient, effective, personalized care to patients for whom navigating the complexities of conditions and treatments presents considerable challenges. Education will evolve to address these challenges and extend well beyond the classroom, with longitudinal health maintenance and clinical care moving back into the patients' homes. Core curricular content will be delivered on demand at home base or from remote sites. Advances in technology will allow for in-home, real-time diagnostic studies to inform medical decision-making and optimize care. Students will work directly with the patients and have the support and guidance of a "virtual" interdisciplinary team. All patients, with the assistance of community based health advocates, will be empowered to manage their health. The educational benefit to the interdisciplinary team is obvious, but the patients, in the end, are the real beneficiaries!
