We were not in Louisiana during Katrina but we had our boat in a storage shed near Empire and Buras. Many homes and businesses were flattened by the hurricane itself, even before the levees broke. The fishing camp had been in the bayou for 30 years but after Katrina there was nothing left but pylons, no wreckage of the building was ever found. Luckily my husband left the plug in the boat and left it untied to the trailer, so it floated until it hit the top of the shed. The shed collapsed and our boat came to rest intact (except for a broken windshield) several hundred yards away by the side of the road. I made a trip to find the boat and shot some video on the way. We miss the camp.
