Grady Smith recently posted his video about being a "gay Christian", which in his world means being a homosexual who abstains from "actin on" his "gay desires" because he believes that they are sinful. His message is harmful, and steeped in fear - the fear of anti-gay bigots, and the inability to think critically and independently.

So, here's my rebuttal - as an openly gay man who was raised in a Christian denomination, and who remains rather happily sexually active.
His message would not be as harmful were he to simply say "I'm choosing to remain celibate" - that he couches it with a nonsense statement about "GOD" not wanting gay people to be sexually active is incredibly harmful to all the young LGBT people struggling against the oppressive and ignorant prejudices of the religions they've been born into.
I have heard so many young people say that their parents DEMAND celibacy from them - and Grady is the problem - he's not strong enough to challenge what needs to be challenged. Grady's assertions that "gay sex is a sin in the eyes of God" is why so many young LGBT people commit suicide. His message is a harmful one, and we all need to call it out.
