The NW7US 2014 Field Day Propagation Forecast
Areas covered: Northwestern USA, Southwestern USA, Central USA, Southeastern USA, Northeastern USA.
The parameters used as "inputs" to ACE-HF Pro are:
- Smoothed Sunspots (SSN): 60
- (Smoothed 10.7-cm Flux = 111)
- Rural Noise Level
- Isotropic Antenna (Rcv and Xmt)
- June time period
- 100 Watts (SSB and CW)
- 50% Reliability
A 50% Reliability factor means that, per this VOACAP model, the results of this analysis should hold "true" for at least half of the month of June.
Real-world conditions on the day of your operation may be worse, or better, than the plots shown in these maps. Your antenna system may have more gain, or less, and you may be in a more quiet location. This forecast is a generalization based upon the VOACAP model.
We all know that in the real world, there is no such thing as a perfect 'isotropic' antenna, so, again, these results are an average expectation of what might happen during field day, in the regions explored.
For each region, we first view the SSB analysis, then we view the CW analysis.
The movie segments are created with ACE-HF Pro. http://hfradio.org/ace-hf/
It is clear that:
1) CW has the advantage
2) Unless Sporadic-E creates an opening on 10 meters, the 10-meter band will be a poor band for Field Day.
73 and best of results in your field-day effort.
