Prague, CZECHOSLOVAKIA - 1993 World Figure Skating Championships, Men's Free Skate - This was the first season where the ISU held a Qualifying Round at Worlds. Although it did not counted toward the overall placements at the time, only the Top 12 from each of the 2 Qualifying Groups would advance to the Technical Program portion of the competition. Mark Mitchell of the United States earned his only 6.0 for Presentation during the Technical Program from the Russian judge. That performance placed him 2nd after the Technical Program. Unfortunately, nerves and the pressure seemed to have affected Mark as he skated a watered-down program to place 4th in the Free Skate. That placement would drop him from 2nd to 4th Place overall. Although he didn't land all his triple jumps, his skating was exquisite -- particularly with the crossed-legged scratch spin and the forward outside spiral.
