In February 2017, GIZ launched an internal ideas competition inviting answers to the question:
‘How can we use digital tools to increase the effectiveness of our projects and programmes?’ The six most original and promising ideas were selected in April 2017 by an online vote open to the entire GIZ workforce and with input from an expert committee.

From May to December 2017, the six teams took part in an ‘accelerator programme’, in which professional start-up trainers supported them developing their ideas into minimum viable products (MVPs). In December 2017 the international teams came together in the GIZ headquarters to pitch their MVPs to an international expert committee and GIZ staff around the world.

The expert committee selected two teams with the most promising MVPs that will receive further funding and support by GIZ in order to scale-up their products. The innovation fund team from GIZ’s department “Methodological Approaches” will also continue to support all six teams by providing methodological and technical expertise.

This video was shot during the event as well as during an earlier workshop in Frankfurt where the teams fine-tuned their pitches.
