Counter-Mapping and the Avant-Garde Stephen Voyce, Professor of English, explores digital mapping as a tactic for re-imagining relationships between place, space, and those in power. In an age of digital media, the possibilities for counter-cartography expand radically, making extensive use of real-time interactive media, 3D modeling, GPS devices, Google Maps API, and GIS systems. The talk provides a brief historical synopsis of this growing art practice, emphasizing its critique of government and corporate surveillance.
