Tom Quayle blues funk guitar lesson part 3 of 4

*** introducing an all new "right side" audio track *** lol ... thanks MoreDanYouKnow for the humorous heads up !!!

In this quick little solo from Tom Quayle ... there is a lot to absorb. He uses several motifs ... and revisits them often throughout the entire solo.

I think the best way to get the most out of a solo like this would be to learn it ... then take some time and try and use each motif by itself in your own playing.

For example try taking the motif of fourth intervals and practice soloing with that in mind ... do a little riff then thrown in a fourth interval or a run of fourth intervals ... then do some more phrasing ... then reintroduce the fourth intervals again. Practice like this for a week ... and it will begin to start seeping into your playing without even thinking about it.

At first it will be difficult to avoid sounding like you are just playing something then throwing in an idea based on fourths. It's hard to avoid that unnatural feel/sound when you start ... but sooner then you think ... it will begin to sound super natural and will just be another idea in your soloing arsenal.

This is a great way to get the most out of solo's and licks that you learn.

In this solo there is also one of Tom's trademark legato licks where he incorporates arpeggios and scale runs. Take this one slow and try and get each hammer on and pull off at the same dynamic level. Then keep speeding it up little by little. In no time your legato will sound awesome.
