Whether it’s painting, drawing, printmaking, soft sculpture, zines or ceramics, Chris O’Brien’s practice is centred upon giving form to narratives that blend fantasy and the real, with O’Brien entwining events of his life with pop culture and scenarios from his own imagination.

In this video Louis Le Vaillant, Director of The Johnston Collection, talks through the narratives and adventures threaded in O’Brien’s work and how in 2019 O’Brien created work responding to The Johnston Collection. Finally, Le Vaillant explains what he feels are the ‘magical’ qualities of O’Brien’s work.
