A festival took place in Edinburgh 2012 to mark IWD (international women's day.) There was a series of cultural events at the Storytelling Centre which took place over most of March as IWD is celebrated on the 8th March. There were some daytime events entitled Gifts of the Goddess taking place over the afternoon and there were various stalls, music and entertainment adjacent to the cafe area of the Storytelling Centre. On 9th March 2012 there were various songs about women performed over an hour in the afternoon including this one called "We were there". This song describes how the important roles that women have had and the deeds women have done over the centuries tend to be overlooked by the history books and how people should recognise the important part that women have played in our societies.

Lyrics
"We were there. Womankind beheld the earth. We were there, man beside us at our birth. As the world was made for sharing, people giving equal caring, learning, growing, doing, daring, we were there.
"Friend and mother, sister, lover, we were there. Throughout each changing century, we were there, but still must write our history, for who heard when we cry, how many folks, how many died. Hand in hand and side by side, we were there.
