Fifty years ago, a broom-closet sized digital computer called GIER -- for Geodætisk Instituts Elektroniske Regnemaskine -- was delivered to the Norwegian Institute of Technology. It helped bring Norway's leading science and engineering university into the computer age -- and created the foundation for many of Norway's most groundbreaking technological developments.
