Jeffrey Toobin, the preeminent writer about the current Supreme Court, visited Friends Seminary on Thursday, November 15, to present a public lecture and kick off his residency as the 2012-2013 Visiting Scholar at the School.
During a 60-minute lecture in the School's historic Meetinghouse, Toobin, a CNN senior legal analyst and staff writer at The New Yorker, spoke about how the Court has become more politically balanced since the 1960s, despite widespread perception that it is a conservative arm of the law. He described the experience of witnessing Court arguments and discussed the recent elections that saw Barack Obama selected to a second term, marijuana legalized in some states, and a shift in the marriage-equality tide.
