Every spring, seniors in the various programs at the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Science present the projects they have been working on all year for the community to see. These students in computer science, optics, biomedical, computer and electrical, chemical and mechanical engineering work in teams to solve a problem brought to them by a customer from outside the University of Rochester. The problems usually require a product to be designed that can be manufactured, and these projects sometimes go on to be licensed or patented and used by the customer to solve the problem. For students, it is a way to apply the skills they've learned over the course of their studies in a practical way, and also how to work with customers to define and meet actual needs that exist in the world outside of the classroom.
