Location:
Between supraventricular crest and pulmonary valve; comprised of the conus arteriosus (infundibulum), ventricular septum and right ventricular free wall.
Function:
Carries blood out of the ventricle in an anterior-superior direction.
Importance in cardiovascular diseases:
The RVOT is an important anatomical feature in many corrective surgeries for congenital heart defects and dilation of the RVOT can cause pulmonary valve insufficiency.
Importance in device delivery:
The anatomy of the RVOT is important in the delivery of transcatheter pulmonary valve prostheses and surgical procedures regarding the pulmonary valve. Additionally, in contrast to a septal placement, lead placement in the RVOT typically results in the lead tip being implanted on the septal/free wall margin or on the free wall itself.
