Passengers stared from a SEPTA bus and neighbors gathered on in front of a home decorated for Halloween while police investigated a shooting that left a 35-year-old man in critical condition Thursday night in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.

Across the city overnight, two people were killed by gunfire and eight were wounded altogether, three three of them critically.

Young bystanders huddled in a doorway as police investigated this double shooting inside a car in West Philadelphia. One man was pronounced dead at the scene and the second victim was reported in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police were investigating this scene in North Philadelphia after a 26-year-old man was shot to death on North 24th Street. They recovered this handgun nearby and and captured a suspect after a brief pursuit.

A child clung to his mother after his father was shot during a robbery in the Mayfair section of the city. The victim intervened when a man tried to take a purse from the woman in this alley. He was hospitalized in stable condition with a led wound.

Early Friday morning, a 61-year-old woman was shot in the head when a stray bullet from a nearby robbery entered here home -- seen here -- while she lying in her bed in the Frankford section of the city.

Four more people were wounded, including two teens, in additional incidents overnight.
