Learn how to build a basic retaining wall. These gravity retaining walls are walls that depend on their own weight and setback to retain the soil and are typically shorter in height. Allan Block retaining walls are ideal for this type of wall, because they use no mortar or glue but have a special front lip and bottom notch that locks them together when they are stacked into place forming a setback. This setback helps the wall support the pressure from the soils retained behind it.
The steps in this video show you how to build a retaining wall from the base course up. Focusing on wall block placement, how to level the blocks, and filling and compacting the rock in the backfill area inside and behind the block.
