Minas de Alquife Ghost village since 1996 when the mining stopped. Iron mines dating back to the Argar culture, around 2000 BC. This Bronze Age culture flourished in the south east region of the Iberian Peninsula. Contemporary with Tartessos, the Phoenicians, the Minoan civilization and the Sea Peoples. Mediterranean ancient sailors searching for mineral deposits who finally settled in this arid yet stunning southern region of Spain. The provinces of Granada and Almeria share today these dry and sterile landscapes where most of the Spaghetti western classics were shot.
