"Before You Accuse Me" is a popular blues song written by Ellas McDaniel, better known as rock and roll icon Bo Diddley. The songs first album release was on Bo Diddleys self-titled debut album in 1958.

Creedence Clearwater Revival included a cover of this song on their 1970 album Cosmo's Factory. CCR had previously recorded the song in 1968 during the recording sessions for their first self-titled album, however this outtake version was not released until its inclusion on the albums 40th Anniversary Edition CD as a bonus track.

"Before You Accuse Me" was also recorded and released twice by Eric Clapton: an electric version on his 1989 album Journeyman and a live acoustic version for the MTV Unplugged series, later to be released on his 1992 Grammy winning album Unplugged. The Journeymans electric version enjoyed 16 weeks on Billboards Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, peaking at number 9 during the week of June 23, 1990.

Both the electric and acoustic versions of "Before You Accuse Me" were included on Clapton's various setlists over the years, from the Knebworth charity show of 1990 to the recent North American and European Summer tours of 2008. The song was also featured on the 2009 Australasian and British tours.

The song has also been covered by bluesman Magic Slim.

Before You Accuse Me Lyrics
(by Eugene McDaniel)

Before you accuse me, take a look at yourself
Before you accuse me, take a look at yourself
You say I've been spending my money on other women
You've been taking money from someone else

I called your mama 'bout three or four nights ago
I called your mama 'bout three or four nights ago
Well your mother said "Son"
"Don't call my daughter no more"

First Verse

Come back home baby, try my love one more time
Come back home baby, try my love one more time
If I don't go on and quit you
I'm gonna lose my mind

First Verse
