Scene from "The New World" that depicts when Pocahantas saved John Smith from being killed by her tribe. Event is based on Smith's journal but it historians doubt that this actually happened. The scene is historically sound because it shows how the chief Powhatan was torn in deciding whether to allow the Europeans to stay or leave. Powhatan, like other native leaders, thinks that if his daughter (Pocahontas) were to marry the Englishman then that might be better for his tribe. He wants trade with the English but his brother (Opecancanoah) says to drive them into the sea.
