There are four things I keep coming back to about what you need to know about health, disability and behavior change:

1) Facts Do Not Change Behavior.
Basically, there are four things we all need to do to improve our health and decrease health care costs by 75%: (a) keep your weight in a normal range, (b) don't smoke, (c) exercise for at least 30 minutes most days of the week, and (d) eat 5 to 9 fruits and vegetables a day. This doesn't surprise anyone, but only 2% of women and 1% of men are able to do all four things most of the time.

2) Make it Personal. To your audience and to yourself.

3) Just Because You Show Up, It Doesn't Mean You're Committed. It's hard to sustain the behaviors and/or changes you commit to make.

4) Bend Your Knees, Lean Forward and Enjoy the Ride. If we're going to be as healthy as we can be - and convince others to do the same - we have to make this fun. It's the only way to make being healthy even remotely interesting :)
