October 2015 Edna Purviance and Charlie Chaplin Film Festival, in Reno, Nevada. Hosted by Lena Covello and the Aurora Repertory Theatre, with guest film preservationist David Shepard, pianist Frederick Hodges, and Edna researcher (and emcee for the event), Linda Wada. Video created by Linda Wada (ednapurviance.org). Includes visit to Edna Purviance's hometown of Lovelock, Nevada. Music played by Frederick Hodges. Special Thanks to Event Sponsors: Carol Franc Buck Foundation, the Marshall's Mint, and all the other people that helped to make the festival possible.
UPDATE: David Shepard has passed away on January 31, 2017. I last saw him, as I was called in early Oct. to help co-presented an Edna event held in Lovelock on Oct. 16th, 2016. He will be missed by the silent film community.
NOTE: The building known as The Up-To-Date-Laundry in Lovelock, since 1923, was originally built in about 1899, right next to the former The Singer Hotel. The Singer was the business Purviance family first leased in Dec. 1898 and then bought in Jan. 1900. The Singer Hotel took on different names, but was torn down by the owners of The Up-To-Date-Laundry between 1946-1947. They expanded their business, to lot 18, where the Singer once stood. They had NO idea, the old two story lodging house was a former home, and business, of the Purviance family. More at ednapurviance.org
