This is a panorama of the mountain scene (start of June) taken at the parking lot for the Sunrise Mine Trail, in Western Washingon. To access you would proceed down the Mountain Loop Highway east of Verlot until you are about 4 miles before the Monte Cristo/Barlow Trailhead. On the right side of the road there will be a sign for "Lookout "and "Sunrise Mine," and you will take this dirt road about 2 1/2 until it ends at the trailhead. The dirt road is not great, but any car with normal clearance should do fine at a lower speed. At about 1 1/4 mile you cross a small stream (unknown name on BLM map), and this spot would be great for local camping. The pano shot here begins with a side profile of a peak that is just east of Big Four Mountain (no name on BLM map), and ends with a clouded view of Sperry Peak. If you look dead center at the snow accumulation at second 15, you are looking at the two ice fields just north of Sperry Peak. Through the basin hinted at below (between photographer and mountain) runs the South Fork of the Stillaguamish River. At about 1/2 mile in on the trail you will cross over the Stillaguamish River. There was a couple before me who had dared cross, but in early June the River is still raging, and is difficult crossing at best.
