Katariina Nyberg, Operational and Technology director of ExClaM!, discusses how contemporary opera and experimental music theatre are performed in the digital age. Katariina is joined by composer Miika Hyytiäinen and writer and director Jaakko Nousiainen, who present their approaches to new technologies in their recent productions Omnivore; an opera designed for the mobile phone and Aikainen; an opera using 3d printed instruments and whose construction reflects notions of time. Jaakko also discuses their latest project; You Are Here, an opera that challenges notions of opera spaces, and comments on how and where opera has been and will be performed in the future. This project connected performances inside Glydebourne Opera to simultaneous performances outside opera houses in Berlin, Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper and Komische Oper through your smartphone camera. Videos of this, of Aikaninen and the Omnivore App are available on the links bellow, enjoy.
