I wanted to see whether I could do this as a writer, as a singer, and as a producer. This presented some real challenges to me as a lyricist--write a reversible song that means one thing in one direction and its opposite in the other direction.
(The reversing song in this video is NOT a palindrome. It is simply a reversible song. A palindrome is the same in both directions. This is not the same in both directions.)
I got the idea of this from Jonathan Reed's phenomenally popular viral video "Lost Generation," which consists of a reversing spoken recitation with the words onscreen. I asked myself, can I do this with a song? I had no idea how grueling the writing process would be. It was like creating a crossword puzzle--I was boxed in at every turn, and everything had to fit two rhyme schemes, one in each direction, so both songs would rhyme.
I don't think I did this particularly well. But it's almost impossible to do at all, so I'm satisfied with the result.
This won the 2010 Mensa Creative Urge Award for Video.
