A video about surveillance in modern society, comparing it to the Panopticon. I personally created this video for a technology course at my university. Thanks for watching!

Music by Brian Eno.

You are being watched. The government has a secret system: a machine that spies on you every hour of every day. I know, because I built it. I designed the machine to detect acts of terror, but it sees everything. Violent crimes involving ordinary people; people like you. Crimes the government considered 'irrelevant'. They wouldn't act, so I decided I would. But I needed a partner, someone with the skills to intervene. Hunted by the authorities, we work in secret. You'll never find us, but victim or perpetrator, if your number's up... we'll find you.

What books texts did you read before you made this video? Writing an essay on panopticism now and could really do with a few good sources. Great video!

If one day those in power will start restricting your liberty, to their advantage, to an extend that you are not willing to take anymore, you will do something majorly wrong. And as soon as you speak up, it will be used against you.

This video got you placed on the Government watch list. Be careful. (Sarcasm detected, but seriously. You never know.)

This video makes me think of the anime Deathnote. Kira punishes criminals by using the notebook of death. The people start to notice that there is someone out there, whiping out all the criminals. Some encourage Kiras behaviour and others disapprove. Kira becomes the all seeing eye, the panopticon. People feel like they are being controlled and could be killed anytime; they fear Kira. Therefore the rate of crimes decreases.

The illustration of the panopticon in this video is just amazing and wonderful. Simple, expressive and illustrative. The question that I always ask my self is how could we resist this very minute system that works at the very most micro-level of our society. We are not being watched only by authorities, but also by the prevalent norms as well as fooled people (who unfortunately form the majority of the population) who don't recognize the meticulous system of power. Resistance seems to me undoable.
