The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools is pleased to induct Chester "Checker" E. Finn, Jr. into the National Charter School Hall of Fame. Hailed as one of the "intellectual godfathers" of the charter school movement, Chester "Checker" E. Finn, Jr. has been working on charter school policy and advocacy since the 1990s. He has authored nearly 10 books about charter schools, more than a dozen reports, and more than 60 articles. He was a founding member of the National Alliance and since 1996 has led the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, a leading education reform think tank.
The Charter School Hall of Fame was initiated by the National Alliance in 2007 and now has 26 members. Each year nominations are accepted and evaluated by a selection panel that chooses new honorees based on: their pioneering efforts in the development/growth of charter schools; their long term commitment and contributions to charter schools and education; their innovative ideas and successful implementation of those ideas; and their inspiration to others in the charter school movement.
