Unfinished Song
DIRECTED BY PAUL ANDREW WILLIAMS
UK, 2012, 93 MIN
PG-13
FLORIDA PREMIERE
Marion (Oscar® winner Vanessa Redgrave, Julia, Howards End, the list of legendary performances is endless) loves nothing more than the senior citizens choir she sings in at the local community center. This is not the case for her husband Arthur (Oscar nominee Terence Stamp, Billy Budd, The Limey), who is far more interested in having a pint at the local pub than wasting time on something as frivolous as choir. In addition to his choir disdain, Arthur feels concerned that Marion, who's in a bitter battle with cancer, just doesn't have the strength to perform. What Arthur doesn't seem to realize is that Marion's passionate focus is exactly what is keeping her going. Director Paul Andrew Williams taps into the tone of the documentary festival favorite Young at Heart by having the community center's musical director (Gemma Arterton, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Clash of the Titans) arrange incredibly fun numbers with tunes by the likes of Motörhead, The B-52s, Salt-n-Pepa, and more. Reminiscent of other popular British comedic-dramas such as Calendar Girls, Billy Elliot, and The Full Monty, UNFINISHED SONG is a sentimental comedy, chock full of acting royalty, that is sure to please.
