Corn kernels always go flying when you cut them off the cob, but it's easy to keep them in check with this simple trick from the CHOW Test Kitchen's Christine Gallary. All you need is a bowl, a paper towel, and a short knife.

TRANSCRIPT Corn on the cob is the perfect summer food but it's so messy when you try to cut the kernels off. They fly everywhere. Here's an easy way to cut the corn off the cob without making a mess. Place a large wide bowl on a damp kitchen towel so that it doesn't slide around. Next, fold a paper towel into fourths and place it inside the bowl. It'll help stabilize the cob so that it doesn't shift around. Stand an ear of corn up on the paper towel and using a short knife cut the kernels off from top to bottom, rotating the cob as you're done with each section to get to the next. The kernels will fall right off into the bowl. If you're working with more than one ear of corn, just adjust the paper towel as needed so that it's always sitting on top of the pile of corn kernels. If you do it this way your counter and floors will remain corn free, plus the corns already sitting in a bowl and ready to go into a delicious summer salad, corn bread, saute, or soup.
