A fifteen-tonne mass of fat, wet wipes and sanitary products has been clogging up the sewers in south-west London. The foul blockage, which is said to be the size of a double decker bus, nearly sent raw sewage onto the leafy streets of Kingston upon Thames. Befdisasterster struck experts found the source of the problem, a so-called 'fatberg'.
To clear the blockage workers used a high-pressure jet hose to break it up- but the size of the fatberg meant it took workers ten nights to complete.
Repairs to damaged pipe that were affected by the blockage are expected to take another six weeks. Report by Sarah Johnston.
