Psychologist and philosopher Eugene Gendlin devised a technique he referred to as 'focusing', which allowed individuals to develop a 'felt sense' of their bodily responses to information and circumstance. A key metaphor (?) within this technique is that of 'space'; problems and issues are conceptualised as objects within an imaginary space of mind, separate from the self.
