Today, I want to talk to you about something we call the puzzle piece.

We're really talking about a two-piece puzzle with the Visionary and the Integrator, and looking at how they fit together. It's like a two-piece puzzle where we have a specific shape along the connecting edge. We want a perfect fit.

I want you to recognize that there are some Visionary/Integrator fits that aren't so perfect. I also want you to recognize that the fit is always changing. As the capabilities and interests of the Visionary change, the capabilities of the Integrator change, and the needs of the business change as well. As a result, the fit can change over time.

The Visionary must really understand themself. They need to understand what their strengths are, what their weaknesses are, what their preferences are, what things they can be more dominant at, their personality, their orientation towards detail, and what the culture means to them. All those things go into determining the shape of that Visionary puzzle piece edge. And we're looking for the perfect fit to match that.

There are some things that are pretty typical of Visionaries. They're big on ideas, seeing the future, and external relationships. Those are almost always on the Visionary side of the puzzle.

Other things could easily fall on the Integrator side. Culture is one. A lot of the times it falls with the Visionary but sometimes the Visionary is less interested in that - while the integrator has a lot of energy for it. So the Integrator may be the one that brings it.

The key thing is that between Visionary and Integrator, there is as much as we need of everything that we need, so that the organization gets everything it needs from this combination.

What's also important is that our Visionary really understands what they want. What are you trying to get? It's really helpful to ask the organization. What does the organization need from you that they can only get from the Visionary? That becomes a key element of the shape of the puzzle piece as well.

Three key points to wrap this one up today:

1. Know thyself. You must know who you are and the shape of your own edge.
2. You're unique. There's only one you. Your shape is different than everybody else's.
3. Be confident that your ideal fit is out there and go find them!
