We took a late afternoon dayhike to Monument Mountain in Great Barrington, MA right on the edge of the Berkshires on the NY/MA border. Andrea picked a real winner! A reasonably challenging short loop with great geography and impressive views from the summit considering its short elevation. The temperature stayed right around 40 F until the sun went down, and the wind was surprisingly calm at the summit.

This was a first run for most of Andrea's gear, including her Kelty Coyote 75 pack and Keen Targahee II low top boots with Gore-Tex. We loaded up the pack as if we were on a multi-day adventure so she could get a feel for how it carries a load and make adjustments as necessary. Better to find out on a short hike than to have something fail 30 miles from civilization - you feel me?
