Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing a storm of criticism over his controversial appearance at Sunday's solidarity march in Paris.

Netanyahu attended the march despite French President Francois Hollande's request not to do so. Netanyahu initially agreed, but changed his mind after learning that two of his political rivals were going. His insistence on attending the event prompted the French authorities to invite, President of the Palestinian Unity Government, Mahmoud Abbas. During the march, Netanyahu was seen elbowing his way to the front of the parade of world leaders. He also waved to the crowd, a gesture some commentators deemed to be at odds with the somber mood. Netanyahu has also been slammed for his call on members of the French Jewish community to immigrate to Israel for safety reasons.
