The following 1:00 minute precisely film is an experimental film created for the QUT KPB201 Experimental Productions unit. The criteria listed that it had to be: experimental, edited in Avid and (if needed) Protools, with sound that wasn't solely a full soundtrack. From this criteria I created Lucid Dreaming.
Given Lucid Dreaming is an avant garde / experimental / neo-noir film (which also contains two timelapses of the stars), it doesn't necessarily have to have any meaning behind it. For my film I wanted the audience to take a hint of understanding from it. Perhaps for everyone it might be different. I Initially wanted the concept to revolve around Clare (the model) in the story initially swimming about like her head was in the stars (or even high), then the film progressively becomes darker and Clare begins to struggle until she drowns. The end product ultimately almost achieved this, but she doesn't drown. Once I finished editing I asked someone with fresh eyes that hadn't been editing with me what they took from the film and they stated "it progressively becomes darker with sad people", my uni markers in the screening also commented on its "strong visuals that keep getting stronger". The song chosen was actually created in 15 minutes, me asking for something dark and the song creator delivering perfectly, which I am so thankful for. Prior to placing this song in, I had one that suited well, however, it made the film seem rather girly, which I didn't want. I feel this song gives the film a perfect amount of darkness. I might also mention, all the shots of Clare and her bare skin was filmed in 15 degree weather, with the water feeling about 10 degrees. It was a long day.
