HyperDiver is a novel underwater imaging system developed by Dr. Arjun Chennu and Paul Färber at MPI Bremen. This diver-operable system captures hyperspectral and optical images, along with various other parameters like the light field and pH of the water. The rich data it captures offers new capabilities to survey underwater habitats. Dr. Arjun Chennu and Dr. Joost den Haan developed a survey method using the HyperDiver that can be used to create detailed maps of the biodiversity of coral reefs. The technique combines rapid reef surveys, machine learning and image analysis to allow mapping coral reefs in a faster and fuller way than was possible before.
